We all make Judgments?

I’m currently rewriting a mindfulness meditation course. As I was editing the class worksheets and handouts on Judgments, I thought, I would use some of the material to share with you.

How many judgements do you make a day? It’s a really interesting experiment, to count how many times a day you make a judgment. When I first started practising Mindful based Meditation, Hypnosis- Hypnotherapy, I decided I had to take some time to see how many judgments I made in a day, I have to admit, I was surprised.

Often these judgments are automatic, Many of the judgments we make, we do not always agree with them, but let them go without challenging them. To change my automatic "thinking judging" mind, I practised daily and still do,  pausing, whenever my minds passes judgment and questioning it.

Judgment is the habit of an active mind, which imposes  opinions, values, and beliefs on the self and on others. Although morals and ethics are important for social order, many judgments can be a form of violence attacking the people being judged. What I observe mostly as a Therapist is people being being judgmental and unkind mostly to themselves. 99.9% of these people were totally unaware of this.

 As long as the ability to pass judgment on others exists, so will the ability to pass judgment on the self. Both lead to suffering. Imagine how things would be if you could cultivate a mind which can, observes in silence with peace and respect.

When I’m feeling balanced, and in flow with life, I feel at my happiest. When I’m feeling happy, I feel at peace, and feel loving towards myself and others, and it just seems to comes easily.

What is different to the days, when I feel happy, peaceful and loving, to the days, when I’m not?

My thoughts

When I first discovered that I was in charge of my thoughts, or that I am the one responsible for how I respond to my thoughts, my life changed dramatically. Until this realisation, I was at the mercy of my thoughts and believe me back then; they tended to be, dark, destructive and occasionally amusing.

Understanding how we think about events in our life determines our choices, how we think about things is the result of our beliefs, assumptions and agreements, which we hold about ourselves, others and the world.

We create a model of reality, a world view, an internal map of the world, or your can imagine it like a filter system.

Our beliefs, assumptions and agreements, provide safety and stability and some very useful. I have seen many people over the years, trapped by their filter systems, many people really struggle to let go of old beliefs and assumptions despite them knowing, it is these beliefs and assumptions that are imitatively linked with their suffering. Maybe the need to be right, is stronger than the need to be happy.


How can Empowerment Hypnotherapy help you develop a new model of reality?

While they sit at the level of the unconscious unexplored or unexamined, they have greater power. We can take various approaches, that will enable you to let them go and create new ones which will allow you to have a different expereince.
We take these beliefs, agreements and assumptions, as being truths, as real facts, which of course through awareness you will realise that they are not truths, or facts, just things which you have acted as if, they are.

-We have an emotional reaction to the event based on our a limited understanding


-We make generalisations’ and assumptions about it


-The assumptions we make influences our decisions and choices


-We make agreements with ourselves and the world


-We now have a pre determined way of reacting in any similar situation




Our model of the world, our internal filter system, shows us how life is; we no longer have to think, we project the past onto the present, and react instead making a choice of how to react. We see the world and ourselves through our filter system, which only really gives us a snapshot of reality.
