I am seeing more and more people, who are seriously considering the gastric band, why are they making this decision? Often through desperation, as they have tried every weight loss diet on the planet, and are still overweight, or in many cases, have increased their body size, as a result of endless weight loss diets.
The dieting industry angers me, as I was sitting this morning pondering about writing this blog, an advert sauntered onto TV all bright and sparkly filled with hope and glamour advertising another fad diet, “celebrity slim” it’s called, what complete and utter nonsense. The dieting industry is a multi billion pound industry. its bigs business!
We all know faddy weight loss diets don’t work, the experts know faddy weight loss diets don’t work, I can see how tough it ism for a nation of people obsessed with their bodies to believe that even sensible dieting is futile. I have listened to many people over the years sharing with me, that for years they have really been hooked into the big weight loss dieting myth “the diet hope” this one will work.
I’m hearing from more people, from all over the country and all walks of life, asking me for advice regarding their decision to go ahead with the gastric band operation. They see the gastric band as their last option, a deep fear for them is, if they don’t do it, they might die. On the flipside, if they do go for the gastric band, they have other serious concerns, about undergoing such an invasive surgery. There are various risks involved with gastric band surgery, but also the concerns stretch beyond the surgery to the long term, how it will affect their life after the gastric band surgery.
People call me and email me daily, requesting help, they are concerned that they might still struggle or suffer despite having the gastric band. As a leading weight loss Hypnotherapist, I have every intention to help them in any way possible.
Do I do a virtual gastric band? yes, but I will want to ensure we have addressed any pyschological issues prior to performing the virtual gastric band.
Here is my take on gastric band, having a gastric band is treating the symptom, it’s not dealing with the cause of the weight related issue. If you knew someone who was a heavy smoker, who suffered from persistence chest infections, would you continue to advise them to take more cough mixture or antibiotics? They would be advised to stop smoking. This would possibly be addressing the cause.
Weight loss Diets, gastric bands, are only treating the symptoms, they do not address the psychological issues which lead you to overeat binge, starve, binge-vomit, overeat, etc.
Some people use food to stuff down emotions, or to deal with emotions, having a gastric band does not address how and why someone does this or, provide them new alternatives to managing their emotions.Gastric bands are not bad, nor are sensible diets, they have helped many people. However I would strongly advised you to seriously consider gaining psychological help with your relationship with food prior to taking this route.
Food isn’t the enemy; the way you think and respond to food is what needs to change, and yes it possible.
