Hypnotherapy is the leading therapy for IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Empowerment Hypnotherapy have helped many people overcome the painful symptoms of IBS and discover the cause of the IBS Irritable bowel syndrome, and find new ways to manage stress. Empowerment Hypnotherapy, offers effective treatment in IBS irritable bowel syndrome, in Leicester Leicestershire.

Intensive research has been carried out by Peter Whorwell, Professor of Medicine and Gastroenterology in the School of Medicine and Director of the South Manchester Functional Bowel Service, has discovered a way to treat Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) using hypnotherapy.

Up to eight million people in Britain suffer from IBS, with symptoms including diarrhoea, pain and bloating. The condition can seriously affect sufferers' quality of life and finding effective treatment can be very difficult.

Professor Whorwell has been researching the use of gut-directed hypnosis for over 20 years. Most recently, 250 patients who have suffered from IBS for over two years were given twelve one-hour sessions, during which they were given an explanation of how the gut works and what causes their symptoms.

"IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) is ideal for treatment with Hypnotherapy & hypnosis, as there is no structural damage to the body," Professor Whorwell explained. "During the hypnotherapy Hypnosis session the sufferers learn how to influence and gain control of their gut function, and then seem to be able to change the way the brain modulates their gut activity."

The treatment has a success rate of about 70%, and Professor Whorwell believes that hypnotherapy, although it's labour-intensive, could be an extremely effective treatment for the condition; and a less expensive alternative to new, costly drugs coming onto the market.

"We've found it to help all the symptoms, whereas some of the drugs available reduce only a few," he said. "As IBS can be a life-long condition it could clearly be a very valuable option for patients;

Does the addictive gene exist?

Hypnotherapy and Hypnosis offer a long term solution which incorporates happiness. So says Alexia Elliott, Clinical Hypnotherapist, Master practitioner of NLP &TLT at Empowerment Hypnotherapy Leicester. www.alexia-elliott-hypnotherapy.co.uk

At Empowerment Hypnotherapy based in Leicester Leicestershire, we will show you how to overcome that addiction, we believe withdrawal doesn't have to painful. We will teach you how to make craving painless and get rid of them permanently.

We will show you how to
-See through the illusion of addiction
-How to enjoy natural highs
-How to avoid switching from addiction to another

I really believed there must an addictive gene, being a woman who has overcome many addictions in the past, and is now free of the trap of addictive behaviour. I observed my mother move from addictive behaviour to only develop another. As I developed my one, and followed my mother's teachings moving from one addiction to another addiction.

I truly believed I had got my mother's addictive gene. While I believed this to be true, I had little power to change; I felt I had no choice but to continue being addicted to something. I had change my personal theory on addiction and decide that the addictive gene does not exist in order for me to gain freedom from addictive behaviour.
Ask yourself what do you believe about your behaviour? Do you believe you have the addictive gene? Does this belief or this theory help you change and stop doing the addiction? I can take a guess and say it's a big NO IT DOESNT. I would suggest that if you take this theory as a truth, you are seriously limiting yourself.

We are all aware that addictions run in families, this isn't sufficient evidence to prove the existence of an addictive gene. We learn from the behaviour we see around us. Those who grow up with alcoholic parents, who become alcoholics themselves, have learnt alcohol is the way to cope with the difficulties in life.

Equally there are many people who are very against drinking alcohol, because of the misery they have experienced growing up with alcoholic parents. Different people can be exposed to the same kind of experiences, but take on different messages. If there is an addictive gene, that can influence our behaviours, it doesn't stop people choosing a different path, if they are shown how to do so.

A waist is a terrible thing to mind
Alexia Elliott explains how self acceptance is key, to successful weight loss
Hypnotherapy and Hypnosis offer a long term solution which incorporates happiness. So says Alexia Elliott, Clinical Hypnotherapist, Master practitioner of NLP and Timeline Therapy at Empowerment Hypnotherapy Leicester: weight loss Leicester Leicestershire

Many of my past clients were experts in self criticism and self hatred; many have told me much they hate their bodies. When I mention the word acceptance and how useful it might be to accept how they are right now, they often looked shocked at me for daring to mention such an idea, the idea of acceptance can be initially be misunderstand. They often interpret acceptance, as giving up, and giving up would be the ultimate dieting failure; at least there is an honour and dignity in continuing to fight. A general fear is that, if they did accept their bodies, it might lead to complacency or getting bigger in size.

What I mean by acceptance is, accepting how you are right now. If you can accept how you are right now, then it can put you in a more resourceful position to change. If you cannot accept yourself, as you are right now, of course you are still in a position to change, but you also, have many negative thoughts and feelings about yourself, and your body, which can make it hard work, and tiresome, when working towards weight loss. I prefer to use the term, "creating a healthy relationship with food".

I remember working with a lady once that held a limiting belief, that she was unlovable. Can you imagine how hard it was for her after years of trying to lose weight, after embarking on every weight loss diet, all the money she has spent on weight loss diets, doing something which she believed would make her feel good, when really, she believed deep down, she believed she was unlovable.

After years of weight loss diets, which had not been successful in her getting the results of weight loss she desired, despite a part of her really wanting to be slimmer and healthier, another part of her felt she wasn't lovable so why bother. She was well aware she had thoughts, which made each interaction with food an inner battle.

Examples: why don't you just eat those crisps you will always be fat" " why bother you have failed every other time" when she became aware of these unconscious thought of being unlovable, she was amazed and for the first time she understood, why she has been sabotaging her weight loss diets. We worked on these limiting beliefs and she practiced acceptance and respect towards her body, she began to create a healthy relationship with food and herself which led to successful weight loss.

Making the change to being respectful and accepting your body isn't always easy, but it's possible and requires mindfulness, persistence and practice and it's very worthwhile and liberating. So when I introduce the concept of acceptance to my clients they often, look surprised as the reason they sought help was because they do not accept their body and want to change it. The strange paradox with this is, in my experience as a specialist in weight loss, in order for people to get to their natural body weight they need to accept their bodies and treat their body with respect.

In NLP there is a term "if what you are doing doesn't work, do something else", if repeated weight loss diets and a negative attitude towards your body has been part of your past or current strategies to weight loss, and you have not got the result you want then, maybe it's time to try a new attitude towards yourself. When people get stuck in the "I hate my body mindset" and delaying kindness towards oneself, putting it off what you really want to do, till that day comes when you have lost the weight .E.g. I'll get my hair done when I have lost 1 stone in weight, I'll start going out with friend when I have lost some weight. Effectively you have put off treating yourself kindly, and the empty promises go and life becomes more and more empty. Judith Rodin in her book Body Traps says "you don't need to lose weight first in order to take care of yourself, in fact, the process actually happen quirt in the reverse"

Imagine making weight loss a secondary goal, and respecting your body the primary goal, it will help you move forward. What I mean by this is to treat your body with respect and kindness, taking care of your health, putting an end to weight loss diets and finding healthy solutions which lead to happiness. I would like to add, that by respecting your body doesn't mean you have like every part of your body to respect it. Respecting your body means treating it with dignity.

Respecting your body is integral to developing a healthy relationship with food.
Every time you catch a negative body thought, replace it with a positive thought. For many years I hated my thighs, in the process of developing respect and acceptance towards my body, I had to change this, too I have strong thighs.
Replace all the negative statement with something positive.

ExamplesI hate my double chin........I have lovely shiny hair
I can't stand the cellulite on my legs.........I'm lucky to have legs that can move my body
My body is horrible........My body is the body that allows me to experience life
Practice: Random daily acts of kindnessEach day do one thing, which is kind and respectful

Who are the food police?

Alexia Elliott explains who the food police are, and how they play a part in you, not getting the weight loss results you desire.
Hypnotherapy and Hypnosis offer a long term solution which incorporates happiness. Alexia Elliott, Clinical Hypnotherapist, Master practitioner of NLP &TLT at Empowerment Hypnotherapy Leicester: weight loss Leicester

After working with literally thousands of people, helping these people to overcome weight loss issues or other weight or food related issues. I have become very familiar with the rules of the food police.

Here are a few examples of statements from the food police

-Bread is bad
-You must eat breakfast
-Do not eat after 6pom
-You should avoid dairy products
-You didn't exercise today don't eat dinner tonight
-It's not time to eat yet
-You should eat this and do eat that, "it is bad food"
-you should not eat that

Who are the food police?
Often well-meaning friends and family members, they make unsolicited comments on your eating habits and also some health professionals and " weight loss companies". In the world of weight loss, these rules  become part of our world view or beliefs system, which work against us.

Food thoughts and food judgments run rampant through our minds, they are often very habitual and have been around for such a long time they go unnoticed and unchallenged, but hold a great power over our actions and feelings. The food police take up residency, within our minds and have great power over how we struggle with obsessions about food and body shape.

These beliefs (food police) make judgements if you are doing good or bad. The food police are the sum of all weight loss diets and food rules; and these rules constantly being reinforced by the media, weight loss dieting companies and some professionals, and of course our friends and family member and strangers.

At empowerment Hypnotherapy in Leicester, Leicestershire, we say make peace with food and end the constant battle with food, battling with food does not work! You know that.

Imagine if you could create you own rules that work for you. You can, and it does work and this incorporates happiness and contentment from within.

A close ally of the food police in the nutritional informant, the nutritional informant provides you with evidence to keep you in line with a weight loss diet and stop you falling off the wagon, or being bad. The nutritional informant will ensure you fastidiously count calories and fat grams and ensure you keep buying fat free foods or weight loss products.

So imagine if the food police and the nutritional informant disappeared from you world, imagine just for a moment they had no power over you, and a food anthropologist moved in. The food anthropologist would simply observe without judgement. It's the food anthropologist that would take you in the direction of having a healthy relationship with yourself, and food.

How would it happen?
for example
- Noticing when you're physiologically hungry
-When you're satisfied
-Noting you feel guilty for eating chocolate.

How do you do this?
Easy keep a food diary, when Clients come to work with Empowerment Hypnotherapy in leicester Leicestershire,  for the free initial consultation, at our Leicester based clinic. As a part of the preparation for the 1st session they are required to complete a food diary.

This diary isn't like a typical  food diary, that you may have completed for a weight loss diet, what we are looking for is evidence of triggers, emotions, thoughts which lead to psychological eating or "bad eating" the food diary is a learning tool. This will lead to you being an intuitive, conscious eater. You were born with the skills to be an intuitive eater, the intuitive eater is aware and is responsive your needs. It operates, from your rules and rules which work for you, rules which make you feel good.

I appreciate this may require some help and assistance, the impact of the rules from the food police have possibly resulted in years of negative programming, I would recommend working with a professional Hypnotherapist, to help you develop a respectful relationship with your body
